Jesuit Defeats Urbana

Urbana, OH-The Wheeling Jesuit Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams defeated the Urbana Blue Knights in their opening dual meet of the season by scores of 111-85 and 117-52 respectively.
The Cardinal women defeated their Appalachian Swimming Conference opponent by winning all 11 swimming events. The top scorer of the day was Lydia Kidd who won the 1000 Freestyle, (11:14.19) 200 Individual Medley (2:21.11), and the 100 Breastroke (1:13.58) events. The Cardinals other double winner on the day was Casey Hamilton who managed first place victories in the 50 (26.10) and 100 (56.40) Freestyle Events.
Junior Emily Martin touched first in the women’s 100 Butterfly with a time of :59.48. Sophomore Teammates Meghan Ebbert and Paige Carpenetti won both of their events, the 200 Freestyle (2:02.97) and 100 Backstroke (1:05.07) respectively. Freshman Colleen Millett won her first event of her college career when she touched first in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:36.22. Both relays for the women reached the wall first, the 200 Medley Relay of Paige Carpenetti, Meghan Ebbert, Jessica Steve, and Emily Martin won with a time of 1:59.22 and the 800 Freestyle Relay of Casey Hamilton, Jessica Steve, Meghan Ebbert, and Emily Martin won with a time of 8:17.96.
The Cardinal Men fared almost as well wining 6 of 11 swimming events. Freshman Chris Munster opened up the day with a win in the 1000 Freestyle with a time 10:22.94. Sophomore Henrique Fructuozo was the day’s double individual winner touching first in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:49.04 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:56.37. Patrick Chadwoski won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:00.20 and Freshman Thomas Moore came in first with a time of 1:00.91 in the 100 Breaststroke. The 800 Freestyle Relay team of Tom Smith, Jesse Kubanet, Thomas Moore, and Patrick Chadowski won the days final event with a time of 7:26.99.
Head Coach Rick West was pleased with the teams performance.
“I though the team performed very well tonight, “ West said. “ Urbana has some very talented swimmers and put up excellent times this evening. I’m proud of how our team responded and look forward to racing this team again at conference,”
The team will travel to Division I Xavier on Saturday, October 23rd to race the Musketeers at 1:00pm.
